What is your favorite piece of fall clothing in your closet?

I love my bronze kitten heel flats because they seem to go with everything, and look really pulled together. I
also just found a couple great vintage necklaces from my grandma’s things. They are pretty dressy but, I think, can still be worn everyday. They work nicely to liven up even a very casual outfit.

Where do you find your style inspiration?

I think it is a mish mash of a lot of different sources. Mostly magazines and just browsing what the stores are offering that season. This fall I decided to go for a more pulled together look, moving away from the hippy look, after seeing Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. I really liked the 1950’s-60’s look, and it is a nice change from the summer fashions.

What makes a person stylish?

Looking at trends is fine, and that is where you can go for your inspiration, but it is really important to add a little something of your own. I have some staple items in my closet that I always have worn, and weaving those in with the new trends tends to give it a personal touch.

Tell us about your look.

A lot of this stuff is from my grandfather. I like the vintage look-the look of generations past. It’s withstood the test of time. Especially after studying abroad, I saw that people spend more time on their appearance overseas. They are expected to look nice, as opposed to wearing a t-shirt and jeans. It’s nice to look presentable. It’s nice to look nice.

What is your favorite fall piece?

The best fall piece that I have is my rad sheep sweater. It’s black with rows upon rows of white sheep and rams … what more could a boy ask for?

Where does your style inspiration come from?

Apparently the inspiration for my style comes from the past. Shopping at all thrift stores all the time will have that affect.

What makes a person stylish?

Style is all about confidence. Nothing is stylish that doesn’t make you feel better about yourself. My style
allows a projection of a piece of my inner self into the sea of people I pass everyday who otherwise would have
no idea about who I am.

Diana Pollock

What is your favorite fall item in your closet?

Probably my red secretary shirt. I like that it’s sort of formal, and I don’t generally dress like that. I generally dress like a homeless person.

What is your style inspiration?

Actually, what I wanted to do is base my style on Chihiro, the main character of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. She wears shorts and rolled down socks and tennis shoes. I like the idea of wearing one outfit all the time like a cartoon character.

What is the key to being fashionable?

I think being fashionable is about being creative and willing: being resourceful, finding new ways to use pieces you may not normally wear or which may not seem fashionable at first glance.

Pamela Wessling

What piece can’t you do without this fall?

My American Apparel halter-top leotard – it’s outrageously unstylish which makes it really hip. I feel like Roller-Girl in it.

What is your style inspiration?

The 70s. I really like the image of the slutty, chic suburban mother, like in the movie The Ice Storm. That’s everything I could want in life.

What do you think is the key to being fashionable?

Trying to be different, even if it means dressing the opposite of your status quo.
