It was quite fitting that rain pounded the outside of McDonough Arena on Wednesday afternoon as the Georgetown Women’s basketball team (7-3, Big East) poured in its highest offensive scoring mark of the season en route to a win over the Towson Tigers (2-8, CAA) 82-46. The Hoyas were led by 19 points and eight rebounds from sophomore guard Dorothy Adomako and 12 points from senior guard Katie McCormick.

“This was an awesome Christmas gift,” said Georgetown Head Coach Natasha Adair. “It was great to see the team execute the gameplan and finish with the win.”

A quick start ignited the Hoyas, as they opened the game on a 13-4 run to take the early lead. After leading by as many as 13 in the quarter, Georgetown carried an 18-8 lead into the second quarter. In the second, the Hoyas took complete control of the game following a flurry of three consecutive three-pointers from junior guard Tyshell King and McCormick, respectively. The team nursed a 34-10 lead midway through the period, and continued their stellar play throughout the rest of the game.

At the half, the Hoyas led by a score of 42-19, marking the lowest total any opponent has scored against Georgetown in the Coach Adair era.
The halftime break did not upset the Hoya rhythm, as they continued to dominate the pace of the game, building a 30-point lead, 60-30, by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth period, McCormick continued her tremendous shooting, hitting consecutive threes to put Georgetown up 73-37. When the final buzzer sounded, Georgetown had generated a season-high 82 points behind 40% shooting from the field. Every player scored at least two points for the Blue & Gray in the win.

“It was a great team win,” said Adair. “We really challenged [the team] before the game to focus, play with passion and defend for 40 minutes.”
The win marks the final game of the non-conference schedule for the Hoyas, who completed this portion of their schedule at a mark of 7-3. The team will begin Big East play on Dec. 29 when they travel to Cincinnati for a date with the Xavier Musketeers (9-2, Big East). The game can be viewed on the Big East Digital Network.
