Sports Information

The Hoyas are fresh off a 12-9 home defeat to the Loyola Greyhounds (6-5, 3-0 Patriot League) on Tuesday. Senior midfielder Kristen Bandos led the Hoyas with five goals, and freshman midfielder Francesca Whitehurst added two goals and an assist in the loss. Georgetown trailed most of the way against Loyola, surrendering six unanswered goals to the Greyhounds as a 4-3 edge became a 4-9 deficit between 12:05 left in the first period and 23:09 left in the second period. The Hoyas would score the final goal of the match with 7:38 remaining in the second period off of a Bandos free-position score. In total for the game, Georgetown actually outshot the Greyhounds 21-19, but had a turnover margin of -8, as they lost the ball 17 times to Loyola’s 9.

The Commodores are coming off a 16-2 loss at the hands of No. 2 Florida last weekend. Junior attack Kelly Chandler, who scored one of the two Vanderbilt goals, leads the team in scoring with 24 goals on the season, while junior goalkeeper Callahan Kent has tallied 93 saves for the Commodores.

Bandos leads Georgetown with 18 goals on the season, as well as 24 draw controls, already surpassing the 18 she set last season. Whitehurst has also been a dynamic player, recording 12 draw controls as well as 14 ground balls. Senior defender Annie Heagerty, who has forced seven turnovers on the defensive end this season, will be key to the Hoyas’ efforts in winning the turnover margin. On the season, the Hoyas are at a -31 turnover margin, while the Commodores are nearly even at just -4.
The Hoyas are 7-0 all-time against Vanderbilt, winning the most recent iteration of the series last season, 10-6, at Cooper Field.
