Twenty-two year old British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg is back with his third album On My One, released on June 17. Rising to success at the young age of 18 in 2012, Bugg’s self-titled debut album sold double platinum and was shortlisted for a Mercury Music Prize. Shangri La ( 2013 ), Bugg’s sophomore album, was released just one year after his first. It went on to win him his second Brit nomination. Bugg will perform at D.C.’s Lincoln Theatre on September 29.

The first song and the name of the album, “On My One,” is a common saying in Bugg’s hometown of Nottingham meaning essentially “on my own.” It sets the pervading tone of loneliness for the rest of the album, both in the lyrics and in Bugg’s process of writing and producing almost entirely by himself. Songs “The Love We’re Hoping For” and “All That” clearly show Bugg’s consistence in staying in the folk/blues genres. “Gimme the Love” and “Ain’t No Rhyme” are songs in which one can see Bugg experimenting with faster beats and even a little bit of rap. The album is a stunning display of diverse sounds and clearly no easy feat for Bugg to go at single-handedly.

After wrapping up his U.S. tour dates at the Lincoln Theatre, Bugg will travel south to Mexico City before flying back to the UK. He will then tour throughout Europe through the end of November.

Tickets are available here.
