Irish indie-pop trio Two Door Cinema Club is back with the release of their latest album, Gameshow, which premiered last month. Gameshow is the band’s third album to date and shows the band’s shift to what sounds like synthesized ‘80s-rock. Currently touring for their new album, Two Door Cinema will perform at DC’s Echostage on November 17.
After the release of two similar sounding albums (Tourist History [2010], Beacon [2012]), band members and longtime friends Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, and Kevin Baird have gone in a decidedly different direction with Gameshow. Whereas Tourist History and Beacon included fast-paced and upbeat singles such as “Undercover Martyn” and “Someday,” Gameshow lacks the same frenetic energy, even in its singles “Are We Ready? (Wreck)” and “Bad Decisions.”
With the release of Gameshow, Two Door Cinema Club has lost some of the personality that distinguished them from other bands. Lead singer Trimble’s voice fades into the background, and the songs lack the band’s usual guitar riffs. However, they will be sure to please with the catchy, flirty “Ordinary” and less refined, energetic “Gameshow.”
Two Door Cinema Club will perform at Echostage on November 17th with Broods.
