The Weekly List: Georgetown Day

April 23, 2018

With Georgetown Day just around the corner, it’s hard to believe another year has gone by on the Hilltop. We’ve survived through 365 days of classes, jobs, internships, applications, club politics, homesickness, and new Leo’s. Thankfully, we get one full day off before launching right into the stress of finals week. Get ready for a day full of sunshine, girls in jean skirts, and “Mr. Brightside” playing at every single party you attend. Happy Georgetown Day!

1.Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Coming out of my cage /

It is 8 AM, and you’re getting ready to pretend you go to a state school for a day. You are about to be dressed to the nines in your overpriced Georgetown tank top or classic half buttoned Hawaiian shirt. I mean, what would look better?

2. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ And I’ve been doing just fine /

It is 9 AM, and you’ve had a comfortable number of mimosas before class. You feel fine to go to that biology lecture, but maybe not fine enough to contribute to any kind of discussion section.

3. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Gotta gotta be down because I want it all /

It is 10 AM, and you are at your first peak on some random person’s Vil A rooftop. Some people are taking pictures, some people are playing pong, but the majority of people are fist bumping to this song.

4. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss /

When it’s 12 PM? Replace “kiss” with “shot”, because you forgot that today was a marathon and not a sprint.

5. XO TOUR LIF3 by Lil Uzi Vert

It’s 1 PM, and Georgetown has collectively decided to take a brief break from “Mr. Brightside.” Plus, there’s no way you get through the day without hearing this song blasting out of some dude’s New South window.

6. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Swimming through sick lullabies / Choking on your alibis /

It’s 2 PM, and you’re wandering around some part of R Street that you’ve never been to before. One thing, however, is familiar—it is the comforting sound of Mr. Brightside’s chorus radiating from a darty in Burleith.

7. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Destiny is calling me /

It’s 3 PM, and you are at your second peak, back on a Vil A rooftop. You’ve been to a whole slew of different parties for your clubs, but destiny helped you find your freshman floor even though none of you have been efficiently able to read or type in the group chat.

8. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Open up my eager eyes /

It’s 5 PM, and you wake up on Healy Lawn after a much-needed nap. Everyone is either still asleep or just waking up, but you know that each and every Georgetown student is about to get an intense craving for &Pizza and a gallon of water.

9. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ Cause I’m Mr. Brightside /

It’s 9 PM, and you’re tired, but you’re in the home stretch. You put on a happy face, rally the troops, and embody the spirit of Mr. Brightside for the final few hours of your day.

10. Mr. Brightside by the Killers

/ I never / I never / I never /

It’s 12 AM, and you are too exhausted to function. You smell like Henle, sweat, and Natty Lite, the sign of a successful Georgetown Day. And now it’s time to head home.
