Softball Falls in Series at Creighton

May 1, 2018

The Georgetown softball team (14-35, 5-12 Big East) took on Creighton (24-14, 9-3 Big East) this weekend in Omaha. The first two games of the series were played on Saturday with the finale held on Sunday. The Hoyas lost the series after winning the first matchup, but failing to produce in the last two. With the 1-2 record from the weekend, the Blue and Gray now sit in second to last place in the Big East, while Creighton trails only DePaul (30-14, 12-3 Big East).

The series started off with a bang, as Georgetown sophomore pitcher Anna Brooks Pacha tossed a no-hitter in game one. Pacha has shined all season, throwing 16 complete games and two shutouts. She struck out 12 batters en route to the no-no, leading her team to a 4-0 victory. Georgetown’s runs were not the prettiest, but they got the job done. Besides an RBI single by senior Theresa Kane in the first inning, the other three Hoya runs came off of errors.

Sophomore London Diller took the hill in game two, where she lasted just three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on six hits. Despite the overall line, Diller and the Hoyas looked good until the fourth inning when Creighton scored all of their five runs. Georgetown headed into the inning up 2-0, but once the Jays went up, the momentum never shifted. The final was 5-4. Offensively, the Hoyas tallied eight hits, with freshman Savannah Jones picking up two.

In the rubber match, Creighton got the best of Georgetown, winning 5-2. Pacha once again got the start, getting no rest from her no-hit gem the day before. This time, however, she lasted only five innings and gave up five runs on six hits. In similar fashion to the previous game, Georgetown held the Bluejays scoreless until the fourth inning, when a Creighton two-run homerun tied the game at two. Two more homeruns in the sixth inning put the game away for Creighton. Georgetown tallied just five hits.

The Blue and Gray’s next series will be against Seton Hall (18-32, 4-14 Big East) on May 5 and May 6. It will take place at the Nats Academy and marks the Hoyas’ last games of the regular season.
