Hoyas rebound from loss
It’s not often that a winning team is outshot, outrebounded, and outhustled by its opponent. Unfortunately, that was the case on Sunday evening, when the No. 19 Georgetown women’s basketball team came out ready to run with the No. 17 Louisville Cardinals with all the necessary intensity and none of the execution. Trailing by nine [...]
Hoyas prepare for Cardinals
After consecutive dominating wins against Big East opponents Syracuse and Marquette, the Georgetown women’s basketball team is now gearing up for a tough matchup against Louisville on Sunday. They are now No. 19 in the AP poll, giving them a newfound confidence going into this weekend’s game.
Women rebound with Round-Up wins
Instead of sitting down to Thanksgiving dinner in their homes across the country, the Georgetown women’s basketball team feasted on the Georgia Bulldogs and the UNLV Lady Rebels. After a tough start to the season, the No. 20 Hoyas have since attained a laudable record of 5-2, especially considering the caliber of their opponents.
Women’s basketball struggles early
It certainly wasn’t the start that any of them wanted, but the Georgetown women’s basketball team can’t dwell on its losses to Maryland and LSU, nor its narrow escape against Longwood. It’s not going to get any easier.
Although their AP ranking has dropped from 10 to 14, head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy thinks her Hoyas (1-2) are still a high caliber team.
Coming back for more: Women’s Preview
While most teams would be happy advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in their third-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, that didn’t satisfy the Georgetown women’s basketball team.
Hoyas slam Syracuse, through to Big East semis
Beating the same team twice in a season isn’t easy, especially when that team is your archrival. But the Georgetown women’s soccer team managed just that, defeating Syracuse 3-1 on Sunday to secure a spot in the Big East Tournament semifinals.
While the Hoyas (15-5, 8-3 Big East) are excited to be heading to their first semifinal since 2007, they still have a lot to work on before facing West Virginia on Friday. However, head coach Dave Nolan’s focus is directed more towards correcting his squad’s mistakes against the Orange rather than scheming for a talented West Virginia team.
Hoyas await Big East showdown
Georgetown women’s soccer coach Dave Nolan has some sound advice to offer his players before their first postseason match of the year.
“Just beat Syracuse.”
Sunday’s clash isn’t just another rivalry game. It will decide if the Hoyas will return to the Big East semifinals for the first time since 2007. Only redshirt senior Ingrid Wells remains from that team. This year’s seniors will be eager to make an appearance before their careers with the team come to a close.
Soccer battles Big East chaos
For women’s soccer, there’s not another conference quite like the Big East. That was clear last weekend, when Georgetown knocked off defending national champion Notre Dame in a game categorized by typically unpredictable Big East play.
Gomez looks golden in goal for surging Hoyas
Relying on athletes fresh out of high school is a major gamble for programs looking to compete right away. The college level is a whole new world, especially when it comes to a top Division I conference like the Big East. Luckily for the Georgetown men’s soccer team, their gamble on freshman goalkeeper Tomas Gomez has paid off.
Soccer stifled in stalemate
The Georgetown men’s soccer team couldn’t hit net in Tuesday’s marquee matchup against Penn State. Luckily for the Hoyas, the Nittany Lions were stifled as well, leading to a 0-0 draw. It marked the Hoyas’ first scoreless tie of the season as they get set to ride their good form into Big East play next week.
