Four by Four: Men’s and women’s track & field both finish fourth in Big East Championships

The Georgetown men’s and women’s track & field team finished in fourth place at the Big East Indoor Track & Field Championship on both the men’s and women’s side, including five event titles for the women, marking the most in one championship in program history. Both teams will look to continue their strong performance into the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

All-American sophomore Joe White led the entire men’s field in the 800-meter finals with a 1:47.59 showing, setting a meet record. All-American senior Ahmed Bile and senior Andrew Ogle also earned points for the Hoyas in the event, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. In the mile, junior Amos Bartelsmeyer finished third alongside senior Michael Lederhouse, who finished fourth in the race, with times of 4:22.17 and 4:22.72, respectively. The 4X400-meter team of junior Daniel Anderson, junior Ted Foster, sophomore Charles Cooper, and senior Zach Zingsheim finished fourth overall with a time of 3:22.76.

For the women, sophomore Kennedy Weisner won the mile event easily with a time of 4:48.14. Sophomore Aleta Looker and freshman Kayla Grahn also earned points for the Hoyas in the mile, finishing seventh and eight with times of 4:57.75 and 5:00.032, respectively. All-American graduate student Katrina Coogan captured the 3000m title handily with a time of 9:07.4. Coogan also won the 4X800m relay in a foursome with Looker, Weisner, and All-American graduate student Andrea Keklak, something the Hoyas had not done since 2009.

19 Hoyas were named to the Big East All-Conference Squad, with 10 women and nine men making the list. White’s title at the Big East Indoor Championship ties him for sixth in school history in total Big East Indoor Titles. The women’s side boasted the highest honor per athlete average among the Big East schools, averaging 2.0 honors per athlete, totaling 20 honors.

The IC4A Championships take place on March 5-6, and the NCAA Championships on March 12-13.
