GUSA creates interfaith board

December 6, 2001

On Tuesday, Georgetown University Student Association assembly members unanimously passed a resolution supporting the creation of the Interfaith Student Advisory Board.

Student representatives began working on this initiative after Gospel Choir members asked GUSA to support them with their staffing and funding conflicts with Campus Ministry.

According to Torres, the basic purpose of the board would be to allow student representatives to discuss issues regarding Campus Ministry with administrators before problems escalate. However, the specific agenda is open to the board members and will be determined more concretely at the first meeting.

The board will consist of at least two student representatives from each of the four major faiths represented on campus. Other University-sponsored faith organizations can also nominate up to two members each to serve on the board.

Vice President of Student Affairs Juan Gonzalez, University Chaplain Adam Bunnell, as well as a Jesuit will also sit on the Board.

“It’s a question of how we can orchestrate a campus ministry that can work with each other,” Gonzalez said.
