The Metropolitan Police Department has been successful in apprehending several suspects involved in the string of crimes which have recently plagued the Georgetown area.
“There have been only a few cases in the last four months where a suspect hasn’t been apprehended,” Bray said. “About three out of four robberies have been solved,” he said.
On Feb. 7, a Georgetown University student was approached by three black males who proceeded to rob him on the 3000 block of Avon Lane, N.W. The suspects stole about $30 dollars from the student and escaped in a silver four-door sedan.
According to Bray, the suspects were apprehended on Saturday in Arlington County, Va. The suspects were found with a stolen car and a BB gun. The three men, all in their late teens and early 20s, confessed to two robberies in the area and are suspected in at least two other cases, said Bray.
A similar robbery occurred on Feb. 9 at 11:25 a.m. at 1600 31st St. There are three suspects in this case, said Bray, though it is not clear whether the same men perpetrated this past Thursday’s robbery.
Burglaries have also occurred both in students’ homes and on campus in the past month.
On Feb. 8, a burglar entered a student residence at 3700 O St. and stole a Dell laptop computer and a watch, according to Bray. The suspect is a black male in his 30s, about six feet tall and 200 pounds, said Bray. The residence was unlocked at the time of the burglary.
A part-time student was arrested in Lauinger Library after stealing a purse. Roderick Childress (SSCE ‘06), a 37-year-old Georgetown student, was arrested after being detained by another University student, Bray said. The student grabbed Childress and contacted the Department of Public Safety. MPD was later notified. Childress is suspected in at least three thefts around campus, according to Bray.
