Dr. Todd Olson of the University of Denver will become the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs on July 1. Olson was chosen by Vice President for Student Affairs Juan Gonzalez based on his experience and understanding of student issues, said Assistant Vice President for Communications Julie Green Bataille.
“I have been looking for a new challenge after 16 years at the University of Denver,” Olson said.
Olson has been the Associate Vice Provost for Campus Life at UD since 1999, according to an April 22 press release. Olson held nine different positions over 16 years at UD and worked previously at the University of Kansas.
Olson said that he will supervise seven departments at Georgetown: Minority Educational Affairs, Residence Life, Student Programs, Student Conduct, the MBNA Career Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Services and Health Education. He will also co-chair a committee on LGBTQ issues, said Anthony House (CAS ‘03), who met with Gonzalez last Friday.
“This position is especially appealing because of the highly motivated and capable students with whom I will work, the caliber of the staff in Student Affairs and the energetic leadership Dr. Gonzalez has brought to the Division,” Olson said.
Gonzalez could not be reached for comment because he was out of the country.
