Georgetown students and neighborhood residents will soon be able to purchase fresh produce within walking distance of their homes. Last week, the Advisory Neighborhood Commission unanimously approved a request for a farmer’s market to be held in Georgetown.
The market will be located at Hyde Elementary School, near the corner of 32nd and O Streets. It will run on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. until noon, from June to November.
The owners of the planned market, Ann Harvey Yonkers and Bernadine Price, operate a similar market in Dupont Circle, said ANC Commissioner Mike Glick (CAS ‘05).
According to Yonkers and Price, farmers who sell their wares at the farmer ’s markets have a distinct set of self-imposed rules. All food sold at the market must be produced by the seller, and all sellers must complete an extensive application process.
