A vehicle hit transfer student Theo Novak (CAS ‘05) while he crossed 35th Street late Sunday night. Novak, who lives near the intersection of 35th and O Streets, was walking across 35th Street with a group of about four other students night when a woman driving a white Mercedes SLK ran the stop sign and struck him in the left knee.
“She blew the stop sign, she ran into me, I flew over the car and she just kept going,” said Novak. The accident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m.
He was taken by paramedics to the George Washington University Hospital Emergency Room. He stayed until Monday afternoon and was able to attend classes on Tuesday.
“It’s pretty banged up,” said Novak of his left knee. He has already visited an orthopedic surgeon at Georgetown University Hospital, and will have to return.
“It’s a slow recovery, but I’m alright,” said Novak, who transferred this year to Georgetown from the University of Washington.
According to Novak, one of the students crossing at the scene recorded the car’s license plate number. The D.C. Metropolitan Police have not yet contacted him about any leads. The MPD was contacted but would not offer any comment.
