Q&A: wideout Luke McArdle

By the

October 2, 2003

Senior wide receiver and kick returner Luke McArdle is having the best season of his career. At 6-foot-1 and 180 lbs. he possesses an incredible amount of athletic ability and speed. We sat down with the Hoyas captain to ask him about the season, life at Georgetown, and the NFL.

Q: What was your biggest sports moment?

A: Our Bucknell game last year, it was our first Patriot League victory. It was also one of the better games in my career (14 receptions, 128-yards and two touchdowns).

Q: What’s the Georgetown wide receiving core like?

A: We have a strong receiving corps, Walter [Bowser] has good speed, good hands and can do everything I can do. We just gotta distribute the ball better. We also got some good young talent coming up.

Q: What’s it like playing for Head Coach Bob Benson?

A: I like it a lot. We have a really good relationship. We’ve gotten really close over these last four years.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish for the rest of the season and after this year in terms of playing football?

A: We gotta get on track and make some noise in the Patriot League. We can still have a winning record. As for after this year, I’ve got nothing to lose, so I’ll give it a shot. It’s gonna take a lot of hard work, but it’s a dream. I’ll try.

Q: What’s your favorite thing and favorite class at Georgetown?

A: I like being in the city a lot, and I liked Father Kemp’s class-”Struggle and Transcendence.”

Q: What’s your favorite NFL team to play with in Madden 2004? Is Michael Vick unfair in that game?

A: This year, I haven’t had a solid team yet. I usually play with the Patriots-they’re my home team. But this year I like to play with the Broncos and Bills. Vick is kind of unfair. Everyone always gets mad at you when you play with the Falcons.

Q: Before last weekend, who would you have said is better: Terrell Owens or Randy Moss?

A: Still TO. Randy Moss is a freak of nature and definitely made a statement this weekend. All around, I’m still going with Terrell.

Q: Aside from the Patriot League what’s the best college football conference?

A: I’m gonna go with the Big Ten, because my sister went to Michigan.

Q: Describe your pre-game meal.

A: It’s usually something not good in a hotel or the cafeteria. I’m usually hungry by halftime.

Q: Jeremy Shockey-are you a fan?

A: I love Shockey, gotta love ‘em for the way he plays. I don’t care about the other stuff he does.

Q: Are you guys going to win one this weekend?

A: Definitely, I’ve got a good feeling. I guarantee it.
