SafeRides expands services with Prospect to O St. shuttle

SafeRides has added a new shuttle to its transportation services. The permanent shuttle will run from the front of campus down O Street to Potomac Street and back on Prospect Street on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Previously, SafeRides only transported students from point to point in response to calls, said Interim Vice President of Student Affairs Todd Olson. A second van will provide point-to-point service on all weekend nights. The point-to-point service will also be available Wednesday to Sunday.
According to Acting Director of the Department of Public Safety Darryl Harrison, the new program was proposed to help deal with “the likely increase in traffic on the southern end of campus.”
According to Georgetown University Student Association President Brian Morgenstern, he, Olson and Harrison cooperated on the project.
“I hope that it will improve the efficiency of SafeRides,” said Morgenstern. “Judging from the data collected from riders last year, waiting times during peak hours were excessively long, and this is an effort to remedy this problem.”
Olson, however, called the new program “an interim step.”
“It may or may not be the right permanent solution,” he said. ?
