MPD locates student missing over weekend

Members of the Georgetown community sighed with relief Monday evening when the Metropolitan Police Department found a student who had been missing for four days.

The University has released no details about the disappearance of Eden Ghidei (MSB ‘06), but a source close to Ghidei and her family explained that no one, especially Ghidei, is ready to talk about the weekend’s events. She asked that members of Georgetown’s community respect Ghidei’s privacy during this difficult and emotional time.

Before she was found on Monday, Ghidei had last been seen Thursday evening in the New South Residence Hall, according to a missing persons report filed by Ghidei’s family on Monday. Later that day, Vice President for Student Affairs Todd Olson held a press conference and sent a mass e-mail to alert the Georgetown community the situation.

No more than two hours after fliers containing a photo of Ghidei and her description were plastered across campus, Olson sent out another mass e-mail announcing that MPD had found Ghidei and that she was “safe” and “receiving appropriate medical care.”

“The University is pleased Eden is safe and that through the efforts of the University community we were able to locate her on Monday,” said University spokesperson Laura Cavender.
