The Georgetown University Women’s Center will welcome Dr. Jill Holmes Robinson as its new Director on Feb. 1. Robinson, who holds a doctorate from the University of Virginia, specializes in university counseling and student affairs administration, and has experience in counseling issues pertaining specifically to women.

“She has an extensive and distinguished background in student affairs and a deep commitment to women’s issues and to working with students,” said Jeanne Lord, Interim Director of the Women’s Center.

Nancy Cantalupo, the former director of the Women’s Center, left Georgetown last spring after graduating from the University’s Law Center. Lord has been serving as the Interim Director since her departure.

Robinson has worked previously at the University of Virginia, Ithaca College, Northern Arizona University, and most recently, Loyola College Maryland.

Lord said that the staff and volunteers at the Women’s Center helped select Robinson as the new Director of the Center. “Students played an active and critical role in the selection process and were enthusiastic in their support of Jill Robinson,” said Lord.

“What I really like about her is that she is really easy to talk to, really friendly, really smart. She’s coming to the center with a lot of really new ideas that will be very valuable to the center,” said Liz Ellcessor (SFS ‘04), a student staff member at the Women’s Center.

The Women’s Center, created in 1990, provides services, information, counseling and programs geared specifically toward women on campus.

Lord will continue in her position as Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs.
