Students of Georgetown, Inc. is under new management. The Corp announced the appointment of three new chief executives for 2004 on Friday.

Christine Werner (MSB ‘05), Brian McGovern (CAS ‘05), and Keith McNamera (MSN ‘06) will assume the respective positions of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer.

Upper Management, which is comprised of 13 managers of the Corp stores and departments and the Board of Directors, which is made up of the three former officers as well as four representatives of the student body, selected the new officers.

Former CEO Kelsey Shannon said that the application process for these positions was “serious and often intimidating,” and described the applicants as a self-selecting group that represents the best and brightest of the Corp. This year, seven applicants competed for the three positions.

“It was not an easy decision, but we are confident that the team we chose will lead the Corp very well over the next year,” Shannon said.

In Oct. of 2003, the Corp reported a loss of nearly $20,000 from the previous year. Despite this loss, none of the new officers have any plans for major changes within the Corp.

“The outgoing officers, board and upper management have done a great job this year and have paved the way for the new officers. We are going to primarily direct our focus at maintaining the services we already provide so that we can serve Georgetown students more,” Werner said.

McGovern agrees that the previous management was one to emulate.”Most of what will be happening will be the continuing of a lot of great work that the previous Board of Directors and Upper Management has been doing,” he said.

McNamera, currently vacationing in the Caribbean, was unavailable for comment.

Werner has been working at the Corp since the second semester of her first year. “I really care about the Corp and have dedicated a great deal of time here at Georgetown to it,” she said. She previously served as Vice President of Grocery.

McGovern has most recently held the title of Director of Shipping and Storage, while McNamera acted as the Personnel Director of Hoya Snaxa. The Corp will also replace Upper Management and the Board of Directors this year. It will announce the appointees for these positions soon.

Shannon, former CFO Kathleen Klaben and former COO Peter Faulhaber will graduate from Georgetown this spring. They will work with the three new officers until March during the transition process. After that, they will continue to work in the stores and the services of the Corp.

“I have taken more from the Corp than any experience I have been blessed with in my life, and I am excited to watch this new group grow and the Corp grow along with them,” Shannon said.
