Administrators announced their decision to allow sub-contracted workers a place on the Advisory Committee for Business Practices Thursday, reversing a decision made earlier this month.
The change followed protests by the Georgetown Solidarity Committee, who questioned the judgement of the original decision.
“There is a good chance that real reform can come out of this,” Mike Wilson (CAS ‘05), a member of the GSC, said.
The conflict began last week when the University told members of the GSC that no sub-contracted workers would be allowed on the committee, citing confidentiality issues. GSC claimed a breach of the Committee’s constitution, which calls for at least one subcontracted worker “to the extent legally and practically feasible.”
“We look forward to the Committee’s work, and bringing together voices to discuss these issues,” University Director for Media Relations Laura Cavender said.
The Advisory Committee, which will meet on Oct. 29, was created last spring through an agreement between the University and the GSC to address business practices on campus.
