Copley Hall’s new chaplain-in-residence, Santi Gorospe, woke up to an unpleasant reception Monday morning. The door to the room he shares with his wife, Virginia, was defaced early in the morning with offensive, anti-religious writing.
The Department of Public Safety was notified of the incident, and Copley Hall Director Dmitry Vovchuk moved quickly to inform the dorm residents by letter Wednesday morning.
The letters, which were distributed to all Copley residents, conveyed sympathy for the Gorospe family and offered students a chance to welcome the new Chaplain.
“I think the vast majority of us in Copley share the belief and understanding that intolerance and insensitivity is unfortunate,” Vovchuk wrote. “To the individual(s) responsible, my sincere hope is that you find it in your heart to apologize.”
Gorospe expressed a desire for the entire incident to pass.
“We’re over it,” he said. “We just want it quiet.”
