A new look for the Corp in ’05

Vital Vittles, Movie Mayhem and Uncommon Grounds have made major changes over the summer, both in their facilities and their practices. The three storefronts are receiving much-needed facelifts, and the changes will make life easier for returning students while making the campus more appealing to the eyes of prospective applicants.

The Students of Georgetown, Inc. is reinvigorating Vital Vittles with a new floor, shelving and touch-screen registers, and improving Uncommon Grounds by installing display cases and new cabinetry. The minimum charge for using GoCards has been eliminated and a new Ethernet connection will speed GoCard purchases, allowing the GoCard readers to work instantly, much like they do on the vending machines.

Even better, moviemayhem.org, the Movie Mayhem Website, will begin service this fall, so that students can search an online database of films. From there, they can order a movie and have it delivered directly to their dorm in less than 2 hours. (zolpidem) Students will no longer need to walk all the way to Leavey to find a movie they want, and they will be less disappointed if its not in stock. The delivery is free, though the price has risen from $3.25 to $4.00.

As a whole, the changes will improve the shopping experience. However, their next priority should be to increase the currently slim selection at Mayhem, or students will just be frustrated at their computers instead of at a shelf in the store.

Aside from these new customer services the Corp is becoming even more involved in the community. The Corp will hire work-study students for the first time, as well as continuing to hire those who do not qualify. This will provide new job opportunities to students looking for on-campus work.

Student groups will also benefit from the creation of the Corp’s new philanthropy committee. Groups submit a simple application online for small donations, usually $500 or less, to support specific projects that school funding does not cover. The committee will evaluate the cases and distribute its $5,000 budget on an individual basis, increasing the Corp’s projected donations to $32,000 for the year. This is a boon to the community and should be applauded.

By significantly improving services at almost all of their stores, the Corp is offering students and outstandng experience this year.
