Bryant said: “No, we don’t use it. I don’t think we even use that other spray, vegetable cleaner. We use nothing.”
Myth: Prison-grade meat.
Bryant said: “We use nothing but USDA Grade-A meat. Everything is top-of-the-line. We only buy the best.”
Myth: MSG is used to enhance food flavor.
Bryant said: “We absolutely do not use MSG in anything.”
Myth: Nothing in the dining hall is “organic.”
Engel said: “The field green lettuce on the upper-level salad bar is organic. I think we are doing more than people even realize.”
Myth: The wheat bread in Leo’s is not high fiber or whole grain.
Engel said: “I only eat high-fiber bread, and I’ve noticed that there is only whole-grain, whole-wheat bread every few days.” Engel said the bread labeled “wheat” is made with enriched flour and caramel color.
Myth: Vegan entr?es are not available.
Engel said: “The woman in charge of the vegetarian section told me that there is a vegan entr?e every day.”
Myth: Food at Leo’s is cooked in tap water.
Bryant said: “We only use filtered water.”
Myth: Pastries, cookies and cake are all purchased from manufacturers.
Bryant said: “We make all of that in our kitchen, downstairs.”
