Known to his friends and family as “Misha,” graduate student Mikail Mamedov is recovering at the Georgetown University Hopital. Mamedov was attacked near the intersection of Reservoir and 36 St. on Sept. 6.

Hospital spokesperson Marianne Worley said Mamedov is now in “fair condition,” an upgrade from his “serious condition” status late last week. While she could not elaborate on his prognosis, Worley said that this is “good news.”

According to the Metropolitan Police Department officer assigned to Mamedov’s case, the MPD investigation into the attack is still ongoing. Officer Lisa Myers of the second precinct declined to discuss the case or her findings thus far pending further developments.

Mamedov’s mother and sister, who traveled from their home in Azerbajian to care for him, would not speak about the assault or Mamedov’s condition, restricting their comments to close friends and family.

Russian Department professor and personal friend Olga Meerson asked the community to keep the injured man in their thoughts. “Please continue to pray the hardest you can,” Meerson said. “If you do not know how to pray, there is even more reason to learn. You will do it specifically for Mikail, so you will be heard even better.”
