The Advisory Neighborhood Commission unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night to support Georgetown’s plans to build a new business school and multi-sport complex.
The approval came despite concerns from ANC members that increased enrollment in graduate business programs at the new site near the west end of the Leavey Center, as well as higher attendance at sports games, would make finding on-street parking in the neighborhood difficult.
Under regulations approved by the ANC in 2000, games that bring more than 100 people to campus cannot start between 4 and 7 p.m., ANC administrator Bonnie Hardy said.
University administrators were happy with the meeting’s outcome. The ANC’s backing will help Georgetown’s case during its District Zoning Commission hearing on Nov. 28, Vice President of Facilities and Student Housing Karen Frank said.
The Commission’s approval is required for any structure built above ground on the University campus.
“I’m very pleased about the ANC’s support for both the business school and the multi-sport complex,” Vice President for Student Affairs Todd Olson said.
Frank hopes to see construction on the two facilities begin by July 2006.
