After months of construction, Georgetown’s new peforming arts center will open its doors next week.
The Royden B. Davis, S.J. Center is the first building in the University’s 225-year history that is dedicated specifically to the performing arts.
In addition to a studio theater and box office, the building will house three classrooms, green rooms for animation technology and office space.
Assistant Professor of Theater Maya Roth expects that nearly 2,500 people will utilize the center’s resources in the first year alone, attending guest lectures, panel discussions, staged readings of new works and classes made available to the greater community.
Hunter Styles (CAS ‘08) is enthusiastic about his chance to perform in the Program in the Performing Arts’ A Winter’s Tale during the Davis Center’s inaugural season and looks forward to what the center will bring to the University.
“It inspires actors to some extent to have a more professional attitude,” Styles said. “With any luck, hopefully it will become the heart of the theater and a driving energy for people involved in performing arts.”
