New Wisey’s: kid-approved

August 31, 2006

Low carb meals, wicker chairs and smoothies may not sound like Wisemiller’s Deli, but a second branch of the local favorite has been open for almost two weeks at 1440 Wisconsin Ave.

The new Wisey’s, taking on Georgetown students’ affectionate nickname for its predecessor, hopes to reach out to a new clientele, local residents, while hopefully maintaining its rapport with Georgetown students, owner Nabeel Audeh said.

“We want to provide a relaxing atmosphere where you can have a great meal,” Audeh said.

What’s new? Besides a trendily furnished seating area, the new Wisey’s offers, among other things, salads, premium teas, espresso drinks and a host of low-carb food choices.

“It’s cleaner. It smells better. It has lots of menu options,” Veery Maxwell (MSB ‘09) said.

Some students, like Tre Enos (CAS ‘07), complained that the new restaurant did not provide free canned soda with its sandwiches like the original Wisemiller’s. The change comes as a result of the high overhead costs of a storefront on Wisconsin Ave, according to Audeh. Whether or not the missisng soda will affect sales remains to be seen.
