SafeRides a success, Morrell says

The University SafeRides system has expanded its routes and times for the start of the new school year.

Thursday night shuttles now run until 3:00 a.m., and the West Georgetown loop shuttle travels the full length of Prospect St. to Wisconsin Ave.

Vice President of University Safety Dave Morrell said that the SafeRides system “is very successful.” According to Morrell, the shuttle transported over 9,000 students last semester.

Morrell hopes to increase student awareness of the late night loops. A snazzy new marketing campaign modeled after Mac’s iPod advertisements has already been published in campus press and will soon be running on facebook.com.

But Advisory Neighborhood Commission Chair Ed Solomon voiced concerns about students waiting on corners for 15 minutes, saying that Burleith residents have complained about increased traffic and noise. Morrell would not comment on the complaints.
