Hoyas host Georgetown Classic

September 28, 2006

Under the leadership of rookie coach Gordie Ernst, the Hoyas marched into a new era of Georgetown tennis. Hosting the Georgetown Classic tournament this past weekend at the McDonough Tennis Complex, the Hoyas sent two players to the semifinals in the women’s draw as well as one player to the finals of the men’s draw.

The Hoyas were just two tough matches away from having an all-Georgetown women’s main draw final. Cohen and junior captain Liz Winokur were lined up on opposite ends to the draw but ran into more than they could handle in the semifinals. The number one seed and eventual champion, Kendall Swensen from George Washington, dropped Cohen and Marist’s Casandra Strange disposed of Winokur.

The men’s main draw saw a new Hoya reach the finals. Freshman Anthony Tan of Singapore battled his way through the draw and even had to beat sophomore teammate Adam Gross to get there.

The men return to the court tomorrow when they host George Washington at 2 p.m. The women have a week off before Delaware comes to visit on Saturday, October 7th.
