Stolen TVs in Cloisters crash

October 19, 2006

Leroy Good, who died after driving his Buick into a house close to campus last Saturday morning, was carrying multiple plasma and HDTV Televisions.

The crash occurred on Winfield Lane in the Cloisters, a small, private community of luxury homes adjacent to campus.

Detective Wayne Washington of the Metropolitan Police’s Major Crash Investigation Unit suspects that the merchandise was stolen from Montgomery County, Maryland.

The passenger, Kyree Seabrook, who was not related to Mr. Good, was also injured. She was released from The George Washington University Hospital on Monday.

The investigation is trying to connect the stolen goods to Mr. Seabrook and maybe get a warrant for his arrest, Washington said.

MPD is waiting for blood test results to see if alcohol played a role in the incident.

Detective Washington estimates that Mr. Good was driving at about 70 miles per hour.

“Some witnesses say they couldn’t even make out the color of the car,” he said.

Some Cloisters residents recall a similar incident more than 10 years ago, when a driver was being chased by the police, according to Sid Spencer (SFS ‘51), a resident of 19 years.

After totaling a couple of parked cars on Winfield Ave., the driver got out of his car, jumped over the fence into Georgetown Visitation and was never caught by the police, Spencer said.

Winfield Lane appears to be a continuation of 37th Street, but is actually a dead end — terminating with the house that Mr. Good hit.

“We have some concern that it is not clear that this isn’t 37th Street and that this is private property. So we don’t know what we’re going to do,” Spencer said.
