Frank Byrd, a Marriott Corporation employee who worked in Leo O’Donovan dining hall, was charged with Manslaugher in D.C. Superior Court last Wednesday for fatally shooting his mother Shirley Byrd two weeks ago.
According to a Metropolitan Police Department release, Shirley Byrd was found dead from a bullet wound to the upper body in her home in Southwest D.C. at about 3:20 p.m. on Nov. 14.
“He turned himself into me, and I turned him in to MPD,” DPS Sergeant Earanest Parker said.
According to a second DPS officer who would not speak on the record, Frank Byrd told DPS that he had accidentally shot his mother and told officers where to find her, which DPS relayed to MPD.
“He has been employed here [at the dining hall] for about three years now,” Hardy said.
Hardy emphasized that Marriott conducts appropriate background checks of all employees but did not comment on whether or not Frank Byrd is still working at Marriott.
Frank Byrd’s lawyer Anthony Matthews did not respond to phone calls as of press time.
