The student code of conduct is under review by GUSA, the Disciplinary Review Committee, and the University administration; GUSA will conduct a review, independent from the DRC and the University’s, to address its own long-standing concerns with the current student code.

GUSA will focus on changing are the statutes on self-defense, the sexual assault policy, and the standard of evidence to be held accountable. “Currently, the assault policy does not have any statute for self-defense,” Schiffmann said. In cases of sexual assault, consent cannot be given when a person is intoxicated to any degree.

“The fact that [the University and DRC’s] review is happening has spurred us to take the big picture approach because we believe that this may be a relatively rare opportunity for us to address a wide variety of issues all at once,” GUSA senator Eden Schiffman (COL ’08), said. “Our review is not piggy-backing on what [the University and the DRC] are doing per se, but using the opening to at least raise the issues.”
