Georgetown’s Board of Directors approved a 5.5 percent undergraduate tuition increase last week. Tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year will rise to $37,536, up from $35,568. The increase, which will help the University keep up with the inflation rates of its operating costs, is lower than previous increases, according to University spokesperson Julie Green Bataille. In an e-mail, Bataille wrote that Georgetown’s overall financial plan “makes strategic investments that provide exceptional academic programs and services,” such as wireless technology, new research centers, the new business school and science center buildings as well as “ongoing renovations.”
The Board also approved a 3.5 percent tuition increase at Georgetown Medical School tuition and a 6.8 percent increase at the Georgetown University Law Center’s tuition beginning in the fall.
George Washington University’s Board of Trustees approved a tuition bump of 3 percent almost two weeks ago—the smallest tuition increase at the University in the last decade, according to the campus newspaper, the GW Hatchet. Its annual tuition will become $40,392 next year.
