Free national newspapers are finally set to arrive on campus the Monday after spring break, almost a month after Student Association President Ben Shaw (COL ’08) promised the papers would be here.
According to Shaw, the delay resulted from the cancellation of a walk-through with representatives from USA Today, Interhall and Student Programs last week to finalize where the distribution bins would be placed around campus. After another walk-through was rescheduled a few days later, it was determined that copies of the New York Times, the Washington Post and USA Today would be available in bins at Red Square, Alumni Square, outside the Leo J. O’Donovan dining hall and inside the Leavey Center.
“There was never a specific date [set for the arrival of the newspapers],” Caitin Chen (COL ’08), the Vice President for the Student Advocacy Board of Interhall, who acts as the logistical coordinator between the University and USA Today, said. “[The delivery] was always contingent on when we could get the distribution bins produced,” Chen added.
Shaw, however, told the Voice in its January 17 issue that the newspaper delivery would begin by the third week of February.
