February 28, 2008

After ending the Hoyas’ eight-year medal drought in the Big East Championships and setting four Georgetown swimming records, junior Goran Bistric was surprisingly humble.

“The team’s performance says it all,” he said. “We worked hard all season with one major goal—to give it all we had.”

At the championships in East Meadow, N.Y., the team broke twelve school records, completing one of their best seasons in recent memory. Bistric broke school records in the 100-meter butterfly (50:52), 100 backstroke (50:71), 200 backstroke (1:48.89) and 200 medley relay (1:34.84). His fifth place medal-winning 200-meter backstroke time was one of the top 100 times in the nation this year.

“Everyone pushed each other,” Bistric said. “All of us worked really hard all season.”

He didn’t hesitate to talk about the team’s prospects for next season. “Everyone’s returning,” he said, “and we have the best recruiting class we’ve ever had, thanks to the coaching staff. Things are looking great for next year.”
