Hoya Snaxa has rodent infestation

March 26, 2009

Snackers beware: Hoya Snaxa is battling a mouse infestation. According to The Corp’s CEO and President Ryan Callahan (SFS `10), mice have been making their way into the store ever since construction of the new McDonough School of Business began in the spring of 2006.

“This has been an on-and-off problem for a while now, but we’re working with Facilities to make sure that we take care of this as soon as possible,” Sam Crosby (COL `10), the Director of Hoya Snaxa, said.

Crosby explained that the mice have been entering the store through small holes around the doors, which do not always close properly. Since The Corp leases its space from the University, Crosby said, Georgetown is responsible for maintenance of the store’s structure.

To curb the infestation, Facilities has cut back the bushes near the store’s entrance and has set traps inside and outside of the store. Crosby said Corp employees check traps at the beginning of each shift, and The Corp and the University have determined that as long as employees remove affected packages of food from the shelves and clean up droppings, the infestation does not pose a health problem.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sure the food is safe,” Callahan said.

According to Callahan, Snaxa is the only Corp location that is dealing with an infestation, likely because it is located on the ground floor of Kennedy and is “virtually outside.”

Neither Facilities nor the University’s Office of Communications could be reached as the Voice went to press.

Your lede draws a correlation between the mouse problem and the MSB building, but the rest of the article never addresses it. Correlation does not equal causation, and you can’t just throw something out there to create speculation without addressing it in the body of the article.
