What Rocks: Emily Infeld

December 3, 2009

The Infeld legacy continues at Georgetown. After a stellar career as a Georgetown runner, Maggie Infeld left the program in the hands of her younger sister Emily when she graduated in May. So far, Emily has delivered.

Two weeks ago at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Infeld ran the six-kilometer course in 20 minutes and 7 seconds, good enough for a personal best, an eighth-place finish, and All-American honors.

“I felt really good,” Infeld said. “Coach told me to get out and stick with that lead pack of girls. I kept moving up throughout the race, and tried to finish strong with a good kick.”

Infeld is now hoping that she can continue her record-breaking runs in the coming indoor and outdoor track seasons. For the rest of the year she will be focusing on anchoring the women’s distance medley relay team, and preparing for the USA Track and Field Championships.

Emily is adjusting to running without her sister around to push her.

“It was awesome running with her,” Emily said. “[Our team] definitely misses her. But, there are so many great girls to workout with. We push each other.”

Cross country coach Miltenberg is confident that Emily will continue to develop throughout her Georgetown career.

“I see similarities between Maggie and Emily,” Miltenberg said. “Both are tough and competitive. Both are confident racers. However, Emily is more strength-oriented. Eventually though, her speed will catch up to Maggie’s.”
