President Barack Obama formally introduced his adminstration’s new energy policy during a speech in McDonough Gymnasium on Wednesday morning.
A day earlier, students waited in line for hours in hopes of getting a ticket to hear the speech, a part of Obama’s ongoing “Winning the Future” campaign that called for investments in alternative fuel sources and clean forms of electricity.
“I don’t want to leave this challenge for future presidents,” he said to the approximately 1,000 people in attendance, most of whom were students. “I don’t want to leave it for my children.”
Obama also announced plans to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil by one-third within the next decade by substituting the imports with offshore oil deposits.
