For the second consecutive season, the Georgetown men’s basketball team has been picked to finish second in the Big East’s annual preseason coaches’ poll. The league announced the results at its annual media day, which took place Wednesday morning at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
The Hoyas, who won 22 games last season and finished 12-6 in Big East play last year, were slotted behind unanimous first place selection, Villanova, the conference’s defending regular season and tournament champion. It is the second consecutive year that the Wildcats received a unanimous first place pegging.
The Blue and Gray narrowly eked out third place Butler, who tied the Hoyas for second place in last year’s conference standings with 12 wins as well. The Hoyas received 70 total points in the poll, slightly higher than Butler’s 67.
Two NCAA Tournament teams from last year, Xavier and Providence, finished in fourth and fifth place respectively, while Marquette followed close behind in sixth. Seton Hall, DePaul, Creighton, and St. John’s rounded out the poll.
