Women’s Hoops Pre-Game Primer: Hoyas open conference play at Xavier

December 29, 2015

Sports Information

The Georgetown women’s basketball team (7-3, Big East) will begin Big East play against the Xavier Musketeers (9-2, Big East) Tuesday night in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Hoyas closed out the nonconference schedule with an 82-46 blowout over Towson on Wednesday to remain perfect at home. The Musketeers will seek to extend their four-game winning streak after squeezing out a late 62-59 come-from-behind victory against Kennesaw State.

Sports Information

The Hoyas’ 82 points against Towson was Georgetown’s best offensive performance of the season. The Hoyas finished the day shooting at 40 percent, with every active Hoya contributing a bucket.

The Hoyas have been carried by the strong play of their guards throughout the nonconference schedule. Sophomore guard Dorothy Adamako’s 19 points and eight rebounds against Towson earned her a selection to the Big East Weekly Honor Roll, while senior guard Katie McCormick chipped in four three-pointers for 12 points against the Tigers. Freshman guard Dionna White has led the Hoyas in scoring in a dominant first collegiate season at 14.3 points per game, with Adamako close behind at 11.3 points per game.

Xavier senior guard Aliyah Zantt earned a Big East Weekly Honor Roll appearance herself for her performance against Kennesaw State.  Zantt led the Musketeers with 24 points, in addition to four assists, three rebounds, and three steals. The All-Big East Preseason Team selection, senior forward Briana Glover, added 15 points in the Xavier victory.

The Musketeers got the better of the Hoyas last year, winning all three meetings, including a 70-67 thriller in the opening round of the Big East Tournament. Georgetown has never topped Xavier in Cincinnati.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EST. The game will be available on the Big East Digital Network.
