A dreadful start to the season didn’t get any better this past weekend, as the Georgetown men’s lacrosse team (1-9, 0-2 Big East) lost to No. 4 Denver (8-1, 1-0 Big East) 17-4 in front of 1,981 fans Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. It’s the sixth consecutive loss for the Hoyas, who are winless in five home games played at Cooper Field this season.

Graduate student midfielder Joe Bucci had one goal and one assist to pace the Hoyas, who were overwhelmed by the Pioneers’ offensive attack. Denver had 11 players score in total, including five players who scored two goals each.

The Pioneers scored five unanswered goals to start the game and never looked back. They led 6-1 after the first quarter, 8-1 at halftime, and 13-3 after three frames.

Hoya sophomore goalie Nick Marrocco was kept busy throughout the game, as he made 13 saves. In total, the Pioneers outshot the Hoyas 48-30 and converted two-of- five extra-man opportunities. The Hoyas failed to convert on both of their man-up chances.

The Hoyas will look to snap their six-game losing streak when they host Providence (7-3, 1-0 Big East) this Saturday at Cooper Field. Face-off is slated for 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Big East Digital Network.
