Oh the pleasures of womanhood!
Girls, it’s the anxiously awaited season! Time to tan your legs and brush the mothballs off that most important of seasonal rights—the spring dress. If you don’t have one, or you’re sick of your old one, or two or three or seven, we at the Voice recommend several Georgetown boutiques that you should visit.
Urban Chic, located on Q and Wisconsin, has the biggest selection of top tier designers. They carry Diane von Furstenburg, Alice + Olivia, Geren Ford and Rachel Taylor, who designed the dress that Callie wears on the cover. Their dresses range from baby doll shapes with fun prints, to the classic squared-off look of the ‘60s.
Our friends at Pink November are carrying a set of spring looks much bolder in color and trendier in approach. They have an array of printed wrap dresses and a large selection of long, flowy frocks such as the NAFNAF dress worn by Irene on page 11. If you’re too big a trendster to stick with the dress approach, Pink November carries an amazing orange romper by Nicole Miller, which Irene wears on page 11.
Our favorite new discovery of the season is the store We One Two You, located right next door to Pink November on Wisconsin and P. They carry only foreign designers— names like Candela and Arrogant Cat, among other brands. The pink floral dress worn by Callie on page 10 was our favorite find at the store and a great example of the unique selection that
carries.
For those men out there who care about fashion —it is unclear how many of you there are here at Georgetown—regardless of the season, you just can’t beat Barney’s Co-Op. It’s the only men’s store in Georgetown that carries top name designers like Marc Jacobs, Steven Allen and our favorite brand, Trovata. Trovata distinguishes itself by taking classic looks, like the slacks Nick wears on page 11, and tweaking with their subtleties, using different buttons on a single pair of pants or pocket shaped stitching where a pocket can’t be found. We opted to dress Nick in a more casual look for spring because we figured more of his time would be spent on the lawn than in the classroom or at work.
Ladies, if we catch you on the lawn wearing a short jean or ruffle skirt, or exposing your butt crack, we will be very disappointed. Not only will you appear totally classless and out of style, but the skirts require that you find a top to go with them—too much effort in what should be a spur-of-the-moment season. That’s the beauty of the Spring dress, or even the romper: you can easily slip it on. Or slip it off.
