Women’s Basketball?Coach Patrick Knapp’s post-season hopes were bolstered last night with a much-needed 76-56 win against the Pittsburgh Panthers

With the victory, the Hoyas move to 11-7 and 3-4 in the Big East. Freshman forward Rebekkah Brunson, a local standout from Oxon Hill High School in Maryland, led the Hoya women with a career-high 28 points. Senior guard Katie Smrcka-Duffy added 18 points and sophomore forward Zsuzsanna Horvath notched 14.

The win is a bright spot for this Hoya team. Expectations have fizzled for the women’s team this year, especially after starting the year by capturing the Depaul Invitational and knocking off a strong Tulane squad.

The Hoyas have struggled through conference play, a quest that embarrasingly began with a 107-45 shellacking at the hands of Connecticut. And if it weren’t for Lesley Walker’s overtime heroics against Syracuse last Wednesday, the Hoyas would be looking at a 2-4 conference record.

Brunson has taken over the reigns in recent weeks and had her previous career-high on Sunday against Virginia Tech with 20 points. The forward was just named Big East Rookie of the Week for the third time. She is averaging 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds while taking the offensive burden off of Smrcka-Duffy.

Men’s Outdoor Track?Georgetown’s nationally prominent Indoor Track squad is in the thick of their season, having just completed a successful second-place outing at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday.

The Hoyas relied on the first-place performances of three runners for part of their 161 points.

Junior Chris Miltenberg took first place in the mile run, while senior Isidro Pimentel won the 1,000-meter run. In the 500-meter run, junior Michael Williams capped off the Hoya’s success with his first-place time.

Women’s Outdoor Track?Seven Hoyas qualified for the post-season this weekend at the Kroger Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech.

Senior Sasha Spencer, who ran in the 400-meter dash, and sophomore Erin Sicher, who competed in the mile, qualified for the NCAAs. Spencer’s time was 54.61, while Sicher crossed the finish line at 4:48.37.

Five women runners earned a spot at the ECAC Indoor Championships by virtue of their performances?senior Emily Enstice, sophomore Jill Laurendeau, senior Heather Blackard, junior Brionne Dawson and junior Tyrona Heath.

Swimming & Diving? The men’s and women’s swim and dive teams knocked off St. Francis (N.Y.) for the second team victory of the Spring campaign.

The men grabbed five first-place individual finishes on their way to garnering 119.5 points over St. Francis’ 85.5.

The women, who also competed against St. Francis of Pennsylvania, earned 121 and 123 points in their respective wins.
