Rep. Smith criticizes Roe v. Wade

Representative Chris Smith (R-N.J.) likened the legalization of abortion in the United States to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dred Scott case to not recognize blacks as legal persons. Smith was a keynote speaker at the Cardinal O’Connor Conference on Life held at the University this Monday.

Smith said that not recognizing the fetus as a legal human being was the same as not recognizing the legal rights of an ethnically-black individual.

Smith compared the Supreme Court’s approval of abortion in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision to the 1857 Dred Scott case, which declared that blacks were not entitled to U.S. citizenship or the right to sue in court.

Smith also criticized the United Nations and other international organizations for their support of China’s “one child” policy.

He explained that China implemented its “one child policy” in 1979, allowing couples to only have one child to prevent further overpopulation.

“Brothers and sisters are illegal in China,” explained Smith. He added that the policy mandates forced abortions for women who are pregnant with a second child.

“To get their birth quotas and their targets, their timetables met, they impose forced abortions, forced IUD [interuterine device] insertions and forced sterilizations,” Smith said.

“Planned Parenthood, the UNFPA [United Nations Population Fund] ? have sat there and applauded and extolled this heinous program,” said Smith.

Smith also voiced his concern over population control efforts.

“[UNPFA and Planned Parenthood] are part of a larger network of international population controllers who believe that there are just too many of us on the planet,” he said.
