Georgetown’s four-year domination in Big East women’s lacrosse continued last Saturday with the Hoyas’ sound 14-6 victory over Notre Dame. Goalkeepers senior Sarah Robinson and sophomore Maggie Koch amassed 21 while senior attacker Catherine Elbe, senior midfielder Allison Chambers and sophomore attacker Coco Stanwick all added at least three goals each.
Georgetown started the contest without even a shot on goal for the first eight minutes of the game, while the Irish managed to get off six. Robinson denied their scoring attempts for nine minutes until sophomore defender Lena Zentgraf gave Notre Dame the only lead they would enjoy the entire game with her goal 9:10 minutes in, putting the Irish up 1-0 over the Hoyas. Less then two minutes later Elbe scored the first of eight unanswered goals in an offensive onslaught that left Georgetown with a comfy 8-1 lead going into the break.
Koch took over for Robinson in goal after halftime. Georgetown gave up two goals 4:25 minutes into the second half, making the score 9-3. Georgetown rattled off three goals giving them a nine point lead and then Notre Dame netted three of their own, pulling them within six with a score of 12-6. Georgetown held the Irish scoreless for the final 14:59 minutes while Chambers and Stanwick added two more goals to end the game with a final score of 14-6.
Elbe led all Georgetown scorers with four goals and one assist. Koch held the Hoyas down with 11 saves in her second half stint. Robinson had 10 saves and held the Irish to a single goal in the first half, a performance which earned her the third Big East Defensive Player of the Week honors of her career.
