Coming off an important road victory on Friday, the Georgetown women’s soccer team (9-1-1 overall, 2-0-1 BE), continued the solid start to their season by defeating Seton Hall (5-3-2 overall, 1-2-0 BE) this past Sunday. The 1-0 shutout on North Kehoe Field extended the Hoyas’ winning streak to a season-high seven games, and it was the team’s fifth shutout of an opponent during that winning streak.
“It is one of confidence and it’s one of hunger,” Head Coach Dave Nolan said of the winning streak. “We’ve paid a lot of attention to details.”
That hunger showed as the Hoyas put pressure on the Pirates from the opening kickoff, outshooting Seton Hall 5-3 in the first half. The game’s lone goal came during this aggressive period, when senior forward Shara McNeill broke free from the defense in the 11th minute. McNeill beat two defenders on the right side, crossed the ball to first year forward Brittany Berry, who faked a shot and softly pushed the ball in the path of junior midfielder Chrissy Skogen. Skogen deposited the ball past Seton Hall goalkeeper Amanda Becker for the game winner. She leads the team this year with 13 points and six goals.
The second half saw less offensive action and more defensive stress for the Hoyas. The Pirates outshot the Hoyas 6-4 in the second half but were never able to put one through against sophomore goalkeeper Jade Higgins. Fortunately, the Hoyas’ defense, although weary from their 3-1 victory at Rutgers (3-6-0 overall, 0-3-0 BE) on Friday, only forced Higgins to make three saves.
