Georgetown athletic director Bernard Muir announced yesterday that Brian Wiese will take over as the new head coach of the men’s soccer team. Wiese hails from Notre Dame, where he was the associate Head Coach.

He has coached 11 All-Americans and was named to the College Soccer News.com’s Top Assistant Coaches List in 2001. Wiese spent his playing days at Dartmouth, where he was a three-time All-Ivy League selection as a goalkeeper. Before beginning his coaching career in 1995, Wiese played professionally for a year as a member of the Bulawayo Highlanders in Zimbabwe. Wiese told to Georgetown Sports Information that “It’s important to me that I coach at, and recruit, players to a school that I believe in both academically and athletically.”

Wiese is the latest addition to a revamped Georgetown athletic program, which in the past few months has said farewell to its head football coach, head tennis coach, and head volleyball coach. In his first year on the hilltop, Muir has already shown a true commitment to transcending the athletic program in its entirety to new heights.
