Georgetown men bounce back

January 18, 2007

The Hoyas had only a few days to regroup from Saturday’s loss to Pittsburgh before heading back on the road to face Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey last night.

Rutgers, who entered the game 8-9 (1-3 BE) is in the midst of a rebuilding year after losing Quincy Douby, one of the best players in Scarlet Knights history.

Georgetown jumped all over the struggling Rutgers team, racing out to a 28-13 halftime lead. The Hoyas used energetic team defense and good offensive balance to pull away early. Unlike the Pitt game, in which Patrick Ewing Jr. was the only force off the bench, everyone contributed Wednesday as Georgetown played efficient team basketball, assisting on half of the field goals scored.

The Hoyas built their lead to 20 points early in the second half and were never threatened again, winning 68-54. Freshman DaJuan Summers and junior Roy Hibbert led the Hoyas with 17 and 16 points respectively. Hibbert dominated the smaller frontcourt of the Scarlet Knights, going seven for eight from the floor. Marquis Webb led Rutgers with 12 points.

The Hoyas will look to start another win streak as they travel to New Jersey to battle Seton Hall on Friday.
