Hoyas dominate Mt. St. Mary’s

April 12, 2007

The fifth-ranked Georgetown Men’s Lacrosse team traveled to Maryland and defeated Mount St. Mary’s 11-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Balanced offensively and strong on defense, the Hoyas played patiently, wearing down Mount St. Mary’s until the second half, when Georgetown’s depth finally proved too much for the Mountaineers. The Hoyas only led 3-2 at the half, but they exploded offensively after the break, scoring three quick goals in the third quarter and another five in the fourth to outscore the Mountaineers 8-2 in the second half. Georgetown dominated possession, allowing few attacks. When the Mountaineers did manage to get into the Hoyas’ zone, they were thwarted by a defense that allowed only 21 shots. Offensively, ten different Georgetown players contributed goals on 61 shots, their most attempts since a 2005 match against Army. Sophomore Cullen Molinari led the way with two goals and an assist. Freshman Chris Schuville also notched his first career goal mid-way through the third period.

The win was Georgetown’s fifth in their last six and pushed the fifth-ranked Hoyas to 7-2 on the year as they prepare for the home stretch of the regular season. Next up for the Hoyas is Loyola (5-3).
