Alumni delight

September 6, 2007

On September 14th and 15th, the Davis Center will open its doors for an unprecedented festivity. The nearly two-year-old venue will house its first rock concert, GEMA ROCKS, courtesy of the Georgetown Entertainment Media Alliance (GEMA). Formed in 2002 by Gemstar-TV Guide CEO Richard Battista (MSB ‘86), GEMA serves as a collaborative forum for well-established media executives and a networking tool for Georgetown alumni involved in the entertainment industry. GEMA ROCKS is the brainchild of Teddy Zambetti (COL ‘80), an executive producer for Sirius Radio, who organized the first run of the show last year in New York. Proceeds from the event will go towards an effort to raise $250K for Georgetown’s Screening Classroom in New South, a project that Jody Arlington, the GEMA D.C. director, says is “in the home stretch” of completion.

Hosted by VH1 VJ Alison Becker, the evening will feature a wide range of performers from the Class of 1970 to 2010 including Grammy winner Bill Danhoff (“Afternoon Delight,” “Take Me Home Country Roads”), Walter Egan (“Magnet & Steel”) and Honor By August (“Into the Light”). Tickets are already on sale: $55 for General Admission, $30 for Young Alumni (Class of 2003-2007), and $15 for students. The shows begin at 7:30 in the Gonda Theatre.
